Reasons for completing the course

Montessori teaching focuses on encouraging self-development in children, in a respectful way, and on the implementation of practical aspects of the classroom, something which currently attracts many parents and professionals from all over the world.  Therefore, some of the reasons for taking this course are:

- To know the principles of the Montessori method in depth and their practice in a class of 6 – 12 year olds.
- To obtain the double qualification of a Master’s degree from the university and the AMI diploma.
- To take the only Montessori AMI course for 6 – 12 years recognized as a Master throughout Europe.
- To participate in a Master at the University of Girona in assistance with the Fundació Universitat de Girona.
- To participate in the only Montessori AMI course for 6 – 12 years currently offered in Spain.
- To obtain the diploma of the Association Montessori International, currently considered to be the most prestigious and complete Montessori training at world level.
- International recognition for guides trained with the support of the Association Montessori International.
- To take the AMI 6 – 12 course at an international level, adapted to the Spanish Russian and English curriculums, with all the cultural richness that this implies.

Presentation

The AMI Montessori Guide for 6 to 12 year olds master's degree is designed to achieve a good knowledge of the theory and practice of the Montessori approach in Primary Education, with the aim of helping children in their development and adaptation to society. The training covers all curricular areas which, with Montessori pedagogy, are many more than those covered by traditional education. These include philosophy, psychology and the contents of the areas of knowledge with their materials and teaching-learning activities. The methodology of the course includes theory classes, practice with the materials, observations and practice in Montessori schools.

The proposed course format includes the foundation course for the 3-6 year old stage. All topics of theory and practice related to the 3-6 years stage will be given in an integrated way throughout the course. We want to relate all these topics while working with the topics of the 6 to 12 years stage. For this we have the collaboration of an AMI 3-6 trainer. It is not possible to validate these subjects as they form an integral part with the rest of the subjects.

This course format combines autonomous work and flexible hours with live online and face-to-face meetings.

In total there will be seven modules: 1st online by synchronous zoom, 2nd online combining synchronous and asynchronous lessons, 3rd face-to-face, 4th online combining synchronous and asynchronous lessons, 5th three-week module in August 2025, 6th online combining synchronous and asynchronous lessons and finally the 7th two-week face-to-face module.

During the online modules combining synchronous and asynchronous lessons on designated Mondays, 2 to 3 hour sessions will be held depending on the day of classes per zoom. Other weeks will be recorded lessons for independent but supervised work.

Please note that scripts of the sessions will be provided with the basic information, but the student will have to make his/her own description of most of the content. It is advised that during the fortnight students can practice with the materials being presented. If students do not have a Montessori classroom or materials, they can try to practice with simulations of materials that can be shared.

The supervised practice with materials will be done in the classroom weeks, but it is advisable to look for materials to practice also during the academic year.

From September to January 2025, first the three weeks of observations in a Montessori school and then from January to the end of the course, four weeks of practice in a school with a Montessori AMI guide.

A student handbook will be provided at the beginning of the course, in which the specifications and functioning of the course will be set out in more detail.
